AGE AND DIVISION PLACEMENT
ExplanationUpdated Monday August 5, 2019 by Katy National Little League.
The Spring Season is run 100% through Little League. When we put your child's date of birth into the site, Little League determines the division as of September 1st of that year.
Ex--Child is born 8/31/2005---they are considered 14 by September 1st and in Juniors
Child is born on 9/2/2005--they are considered 13 by September 1st and in Intermediate
In the Fall, each league is free to operate as they choose since Little League does not operate Fall Seasons.
The way we have always operated is that a child should play in the division that they would be assigned to in the Spring of the following year. It does not make sense, in 99% of the cases, to play down in a Fall season and have to catch up in the Spring to a different division. In many cases, field dimensions change, rules change and position usage change from division to division.
As there is leeway in the Fall, we can consider situations where a child has never played, is behind their skill group or other factors as to placement in the Fall. That flexibility goes away in the Spring.
